Dr. Julie Shamlaye

Head of Medical Unit

Dr. Julie Shamlaye is a highly respected sports medicine physician and a leading figure in sports science domestically, an avenue in which the authority is considering serious investment as we speak. As the head of the Medical Unit for the sports council, she is responsible for the overall health and well-being of the country’s athletes, and a strong advocate for the use of sports science to improve athletic performance and prevent injuries. She has been instrumental thus far, developing and implementing a number of programmes and practices, preparing and safeguarding our athletes whilst performing domestically or internationally. She led the country’s medical team on the world’s biggest stage in recent years, being the Paris Olympic in 2023 and the Afican Games last year. Under her leadership, the Medical Unit has become a professional center for sports medicine and sports science, providing a wide range of services to athletes, including injury prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, all performance base oriented programmes. Dr. Shamlaye is a highly respected member of medical practitioners in Seychelles and the NSC Medical Unit is enjoying a new lease of life under the directorship. She’s shown herself to be a true leader in the field of sports medicine and sports science, and her dedication to the health and well-being of athletes is an inspiration to all who know her.
