Foreword

It is with great humility and a deep sense of responsibility and optimism, that I assume the role of Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council (NSC). I take on this important role at a defining moment for sport in Seychelles, a time when the challenges before us are undeniable. There is a growing consensus that Seychelles sport has lost momentum in recent years, which retrospectively presents us with the opportunities to rebuild, transform, to become stronger and better.

While our athletes continue to display remarkable commitment and spirit, declining performances on regional and international stages, weaknesses in athlete development, governance and stakeholder collaboration are clear hindrances in need of a relook. The time for gradual change has passed. We must now embrace bold, purposeful, and measurable reforms that will restore confidence in our sporting system.

As a small island developing state, Seychelles faces limitations that are both real and unique. However, these challenges should never define our ambitions. Around the world, nations with similar populations and resources have demonstrated that success is achievable through sound governance, strategic investment, effective partnerships, and a commitment to athlete development. Countries such as St. Lucia and CuraƧao have shown that size is not a barrier to sporting excellence when there is a shared vision and coordinated action.

The National Sports Council cannot achieve these objectives alone. The future of Seychelles sport depends on the commitment and collaboration of every stakeholder. Government, national sports federations, clubs, schools, coaches, athletes, sponsors, volunteers, and the wider community, all have an important role to play. By working together, sharing responsibility, and holding ourselves accountable to common objectives, we can reverse current trends and build a sporting system that delivers success. Together, we can create an environment where every Seychellois has the opportunity to participate in sport, realize their potential, and proudly represent our nation.

While the task ahead will not be easy, I firmly believe that Seychelles possesses the talent, passion, and determination to reverse the current trend. With a shared vision and a commitment to delivering results, we can restore our nation’s sporting competitiveness and establish a sustainable foundation for future generations.

I extend my sincere appreciation to everyone who has contributed to the development of sports in any shape or manner domestically, especially may predecessors before me. And accordingly, I invite all our partners and stakeholders to embrace this vision and work alongside the National Sports Council as we begin a new chapter for Seychelles sport. The journey to revitalize and re-energize Seychelles sport starts today, and together, we will build a stronger, more successful sporting nation.
