The 13th edition of the African Games will be held over a period of 15 days in three cities of Ghana, namely Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast. Over 5,000 athletes from 53 nations across the African continent will be participating in this sports event, which is organized every four years before the Olympic Games. It is organised by the African Union with the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa and the Association of African Sports Confederations
History of the game:
The first game was held in Brazzaville, Congo and attracted over 2,500 athletes from 30 countries. Over the years, the number of disciplines and participants have increased in numbers making this one of the most coveted sports event of the continent. To this date, Egypt remains the leading country in terms of the number of medals it had won and the number of editions of the game it has participated in.
Seychelles participation in this game:
The 13th African Games which will feature a total of 29 sports, will be a chance for athletes to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Seychelles will participate in 7 sporting disciplines in this edition of the game. These disciplines have been chosen based on their performances in the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) held in Madagascar. The disciplines are athletics, boxing judo, swimming, weightlifting, volleyball and beach volleyball. In the last edition of the African Games held in Morocco in Augusy 2019, Seychelles won two golds, one silver and one bronze medal. It was the swimmer, Felicity Passon who won all the medals at the 12th edition of African Games.
