Situated in the heart of Victoria, the Lapromenade Gymnasium is one of Seychelles’ first established indoor sports facilities. Before its conversion into a sports facility, the building functioned as a central location for preparing and distributing school meals, highlighting its role in supporting educational infrastructure. It has undergone several transformations ever since to meet the evolving needs of the sporting community. It was eventually repurposed to accommodate badminton, volleyball, and other indoor activities upon the recognition of growing demand for indoor sports venues.
In preparation for hosting events during the 13th Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’OcĂ©an Indien (CJSOI) Games, the Lapromenade Gymnasium underwent extensive renovations to enhance its functionality. These upgrades included improvements to flooring, lighting, and seating arrangements, ensuring the venue met international standards for indoor sports competitions. The gymnasium now boasts a seating capacity of approximately 500 spectators, providing the primary venue for national badminton competitions and is also utilized for volleyball matches, karate training sessions, and other community events.
