Weightlifting adds six more medals on day 4 / Badminton team joins podium with bronze finish

Seychelles continued to shine in the weightlifting competition on Day 4 of the CJSOI 2025 Games, adding six silver medals to its growing tally, while the national badminton team contributed a bronze in the team event.

At the Roche Caiman Gymnasium, Chloe Testa, competing in the 76kg category, delivered a strong performance to win three silver medals in the snatch (56kg), clean & jerk (62kg), and overall total (118kg). She was just edged out by La Reunion’s Maya Firenzula, who lifted an impressive 130kg in total to take the gold.

In the 81kg+ category, Syra Louise also flew the Seychelles flag high by collecting three more silver medals, managing lifts of 53kg in the snatch and 62kg in the clean & jerk for a total of 115kg. The powerful lifter from La Réunion, Indira Maillot, was the clear winner in the category with a combined total of 123kg, but Louise’s consistency earned her and Seychelles three well-deserved silver medals.

Both Seychellois lifters were cheered on by a vocal home crowd, and their efforts once again demonstrated the country’s reliable strength in the sport of weightlifting — a discipline that has proven to be one of Seychelles’ most reliable medal sources at these Games.

Meanwhile, over at the badminton courts, the national team gave a spirited performance to claim bronze in the team event. Despite dominant performances from the likes of Mauritius and Madagascar, the Seychellois side held their own in several close matches to secure a podium finish.

This medal was especially significant as it marked badminton’s first medal at the Games, showing promising signs of competitiveness in a sport long dominated by regional rivals. Hopefully, these latest results, will build momentum, and the additional home support will motivate the contingent of young athletes to more successes.

The consistent podium appearances in weightlifting and breakthrough performances in other disciplines are helping boost national morale as the Games enter its fifth day.
