Wiersig abandons swim due to opposing current

Those waiting to see a first man swim across the channels from Mahe to La Digue will have to wait a little longer, after an initial attempt by German extreme swimmer Andre Wiersig ended only after three hours in.
The swimmer appeared to be in good spirit at the starting line on Carana beach around 5 o’clock yesterday evening, but the waves and current will crush his spirit just three hours in, in what was meant to be an energy-sapping over 18 hours of swim.
The videos in story gives a brief description what he was up against for the epic swim, battling against opposing current to arrive at his destination in the quickest delay.
Perhaps some other time, as on this occasion it was simply not meant to be.
