Chaplaincy in sports in Seychelles got an unexpected boost in Madagascar during the Island Games, after meeting with an international organisation ‘Athletes in Action’ which specialises in chapling sports all over the world.
The organisation is in Madagascar rightfully to establish chaplaincy in sports over there and had coincided their entrance in Madagascar with the IOIG.
Athletes in Action is a global community helping athletes to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. They take steps to help athletes reach their full potential by helping them understand there are some needs that sport cannot meet.
They have been working with athletes the world over for more than 50 years, and a seating at the table at the biggest sports event.
Meeting with Pastor Terrence Payet and reverend Christine Benoit in the presence of NSC CEO Marc Arissol in Madagascar, representatives of the organisation shared their experiences and advised the local group on the way forward to establishing chaplaincy in sports in Seychelles.
NSC just this year took the bold step to launch its chaplaincy programme for sports domestically, and CEO Arissol, Pastor Payet and Reverend Benoit have described the chance encounter with ‘Athletes in Action’ as a blessing in disguise.
Also present at the meeting was Pastor Robert Moumou who is involved in chaplaincy in the Indian Ocean region.
